Frequently Asked Questions

1.) Are your prices per person or for the whole aircraft? Air 2 Air’s pricing is based on the customer utilizing the entire aircraft. That means a family of five, two couples, or three really big people or just one person all travel for the same total price.

2.) Are there any luggage restrictions? Yes. Our average total passenger weight limit, depending on the trip is 800 pounds. That includes all of your baggage. Baggage is most easily accommodated if it is in several soft sided bags. One large 100 pound hard sided suit case or box is difficult to accommodate. Skis, snow boards, and golf clubs can normally be accommodated, depending upon the passenger load.

3.) Can you go to a remote location, rural area, or SomeLittleTown? Yes. Almost any city, burg, town, crossroads, or ranch is within 15 miles of an airport where we can land. So it doesn’t matter if you are going to Van Nuys, San Luis Obispo, Colorado City, Palo Alto, Stovepipe Wells, Angels Camp, or Bridgeport, we can normally get closer than anyone else.

4.) How much will it cost? Pricing for many of our most frequent cities can be found on our website. Pricing is based on one of four travel circumstances: 1) Drop off or pickup, 2) Same Day Round Trip, which includes up to six hours on the ground, 3) Unrestricted Round Trip which is much like a round trip airline reservation, allowing a return on a subsequent day, and 4) Custom quoted trips for infrequent destinations and unique travel itineraries. In general we price our trips based upon $550 per hour of aircraft time at 200mph, $50 per hour wait time up to a maximum of 10 hours per day, and expenses for landing fees, pilot per diem and lodging, etc.

5.) Can I depart anytime I want? For the most part, yes. Some airports have restrictive operating hours and noise abatement requirements. Most do not. Departing out of the San Diego area is virtually never a problem because we fly a very quiet aircraft and there are several airports in the San Diego area to choose from. If there is a problem with an arrival or departure time it is normally at the destination airport.

6.) How many aircraft types do you operate? Air 2 Air operates one type of aircraft, the Turbo-Charged Piper Seneca which we chose for its fuel efficiency, roomy cabin, and excellent performance. By standardizing our fleet and operating only one type of aircraft we are able to standardize our training, maintenance, and operating procedures to optimize our customer’s safety and travel experience.

7.) Can I book any type of air charter travel with you? Yes. We work closely with other air charter operations and we can arrange for your unique travel requirements not only on our aircraft, but on our travel partner’s aircraft at no additional charge to you. Whether you are traveling to Van Nuys, New York, or Paris, Air 2 Air’s can ensure that you get the right aircraft and support for your trip.

8.) Is Air Charter Travel Safe? Absolutely. Much safer than driving. From 1997 all US Air Taxis averaged less than one fatality per 200,000 flight hours or approximately 45,000,000 miles! The National Business Aviation Association has an excellent discussion with regards to Air Charter Safety at: http://www.nbaa.org/admin/options/charter/

9.) Does it matter which Air Charter Company I choose? Yes. There is a wide variation of how Air Charter Companies approach their business, what equipment they operate, and how they charge. Most air charter companies charge actual time. Here at Air 2 Air’s we normally provide fixed cost rates which allow the customer to know in advance how much a trip is going to cost them. Also, fairly unique among air charter operators, we only operate one kind of aircraft which allows us to standardize our procedures and training to a greater degree than a company which operates several types of aircraft.

10.) Can you make Car and Hotel Reservations for us? Yes we can. Just let us know your requirements and we will provide a seamless trip from the time you drive up to our plane and your car is valet parked, to the limo or rental car, to the hotel and back.

11.) Do you provide food and beverages on your trips? Yes. We normally provide soft-drinks and snacks for morning trips and additional beverages and snacks for afternoon and evening trips. If you have any requests for specific beverages or snacks we can normally fulfill those requests. We can also have meals catered at a slight additional cost.

12.) Can I bring my pet? Yes, if it is in a carrying case which fits into the aircraft either on a seat or behind the seats.

13. Can I fly the airplane? No, but normally one passenger can ride up front with the pilot and observe the flight “from the cockpit”.

14. Does the airplane bounce around alot? You will find that the Piper Seneca is a very stable aircraft with a ride similar to large commercial airplanes. Many passengers prefer our large windows and views out both sides over the confined, tube-like cabins of commercial airliners.

15. How much time before departure must I show up? None. As soon as you arrive at the aircraft, we board and are usually airborne within 10 minutes of your arrival. If you have to be at your destination at a specific time, then you should show up 30 minutes prior to the flight to ensure that the required takeoff time is met.
